Match preview
Liverpool will wear their gold Fifa champions badge for the first time and the rampant Reds will be looking to show just why they are top of the world when Wolves visit Anfield.
Wolves enhanced Liverpool's chances of adding the Premier League crown to their Club World Cup after a thrilling 3-2 win over Manchester City on Friday, however, it will take a monumental effort for them to repeat the feat against the runaway leaders given the short turnaround.
The shock victory propelled Wolves into the top-four reckoning and if Nuno Espirito Santo looks at the bigger picture there are surely advantages to almost giving up on this fixture and saving his players for Wednesday's more winnable trip to Watford.
He gave no indication of doing so following the classic comeback triumph over the champions, but it must at least have entered his thinking.
It will only become clear an hour before kick-off, although it's hard enough going to Anfield without being dealt a cruel hand from the totally bonkers festive fixture schedule.
Liverpool could also make changes - Jurgen Klopp did that for the Merseyside derby earlier this month with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah on the bench - and the result was a 5-2 thrashing of Everton.
Forward replacements Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi had helped themselves to three goals in the first half-hour and also stepped up on that famous night last season when Liverpool battered Barcelona en route to winning the Champions League.
Klopp's strength in depth is more established than the visitors' reserves and it should help Liverpool oblige at short odds as they aim to maintain the exceptional domestic standards they have set this term as the Reds have dropped just two points.
However, for a better bet it could be worth taking the second half to produce more goals than the first.
That fits in with the potential for Wolves to fold as either fatigue kicks in or their minds start to wander towards the required New Year's Day effort at Vicarage Road.
It's a real shame the fixture list has handicapped Wolves because this would otherwise have been an interesting test for the leaders given the form of counter-attacking machine Adama Traore.
He started the comeback against City and assisted Raul Jimenez for the equaliser and Traore also gave Tottenham a tough time earlier this month despite Wolves losing 2-1.
That Spurs reverse was only Wanderers' third of the league campaign and they have scored in 31 of their 33 matches in all competitions.
Key stat
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 35 Premier League matches.
