Match preview
It has been hard to keep up with the merry-go-round of prime ministers, cabinet ministers and Premier League managers in 2022 and, while PM Rishi Sunak settles into his new job, yet another reshuffle could be on its way at Leeds.
Jesse Marsch was sacked by RB Leipzig last December, just four months into his reign, and the American coach is an odds-on favourite to be the next top-flight boss to leave his position.
Leicester's Brendan Rodgers, Southampton's Ralph Hasenhuttl and Nottingham Forest's Steve Cooper have survived similar situations this season but Marsch's hopes of clinging on to his job look slim given that Leeds face a daunting trip to Liverpool on Saturday night.
The Reds thumped the Yorkshire club 3-0 and 6-0 last season and Leeds marked their return to the top flight in 2020-21 with a thrilling 4-3 opening defeat at Anfield.
After narrowly avoiding relegation last term, Marsch's men made a bright start to the new season, taking seven points from their first three matches including a memorable 3-0 home win over Chelsea.
Since then, however, they have lost six and drawn two of their eight top-flight fixtures and last weekend's 3-2 defeat to Fulham in front of frustrated fans at Elland Road has cranked up the pressure on Marsch.
Leeds's xG stats suggest their performances have been a little better than their results and injury-prone striker Patrick Bamford, who has started just 11 league matches since the beginning of the 2021-22 season, missed a penalty in this month's 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal.
While Leeds supporters are feeling disgruntled about their side slipping into the bottom three, Liverpool fans have also endured a tough start to the league campaign as the Reds racked up just 16 points from their first 11 games.
Things appeared to be looking up after back-to-back 1-0 home wins over champions Manchester City and West Ham but they were followed by a shock 1-0 loss at bottom club Nottingham Forest.
Recent Champions League outings have provided a morale boost for Jurgen Klopp's forwards as Liverpool scored six second-half goals in a 7-1 rout of Rangers at Ibrox and struck three times in ten minutes either side of half-time in this week's win at Ajax.
Injuries have disrupted the rhythm of Klopp's men this season but they have still scored 17 goals in six home league matches, helped by a 9-0 drubbing of Bournemouth, as well as 15 in five Champions League games.
That spells trouble for a vulnerable Leeds defence, although both teams have scored in five of Liverpool's last eight league matches at Anfield. The seemingly doomed Marsch may as well set up his side positively and, while another defeat is likely for Leeds, they should be backed to get on the scoresheet.
