Liverpool moved an astonishing 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand and their latest victory will have been the sweetest of the lot.

Manchester United, the only side to have stopped Liverpool from winning in this season's top flight, were beaten 2-0 by the rampant Reds at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp's outfit moved another step closer to ending their 30-year title drought.

Goals in either half from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah earned unbeaten Liverpool a fully deserved victory despite a nervy finale after Klopp's outfit failed to make the most of their numerous opportunities.

On another day United could have been hammered, although Anthony Martial had a chance to level before Salah wrapped up the points to spark wild celebrations on Merseyside.

It will be different in Manchester and not just because of the defeat. Reports suggest forward Marcus Rashford, who missed the Anfield trip, will be sidelined for a few months due to a back injury.

Liverpool, along with Norwich, were the only winning favourites on the weekend Premier League coupon.

Leicester became the latest odds-on shots to fall short of expectations in a surprise 2-1 defeat at Burnley.

Harvey Barnes put Leicester in front only for former Foxes forward Chris Wood to equalise. Jamie Vardy saw his penalty saved and Ashley Westwood bagged Burnley a vital victory in their battle against relegation.

The Clarets are out to 7-1 to be relegated.
