Match preview

Leicester City and Everton started the season as two of the clubs most likely to gatecrash the Premier League top six, but three months into the campaign they are heading in opposite directions.

The Foxes have gone from strength to strength in their first full term under Brendan Rodgers, breaking up the dominance of Liverpool and Manchester City with five successive wins.

They sent out a serious statement of intent with their 9-0 mauling of Southampton but have remained grounded and followed that record triumph with wins to nil against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Brighton.

Caglar Soyuncu has masked the loss of Harry Maguire at the back while Ayoze Perez has breathed new life into an enterprising attack comprising the prolific Jamie Vardy and sought-after starlet James Maddison.

Leicester embody everything Everton have striven to be in recent seasons but the Toffees are not in the same stratosphere as their Midlands counterparts.

Marco Silva was expected by many to be sacked after an insipid 2-0 defeat to Norwich and it looks a matter of time before he is relieved of his duties.

The board may be taking their time to axe the Portuguese boss as Everton face trips to Anfield and Old Trafford in the coming weeks as well as hosting Chelsea and Arsenal.

They may be waiting to give their new boss a softer start to life at Goodison Park but if things turn sour at the King Power, they could be forced to cut ties sooner than they would like.

There’s every chance it could turn into a horror show for the Merseysiders - who have won only two of their last nine contests - but victory for Leicester is more likely to come by a smaller margin.

Excluding their devastating display at St Mary’s, they have clocked up more than two goals only twice in the league this season and their tendency to grow into games means punters should steer clear of backing a thrashing.

No Premier League side come close to outperforming their expected goals figure as much as Leicester, who have scored 31 times in the league with an xG figure of only 19.

This suggests that although their frontmen, namely Vardy, are putting away difficult chances, they are not creating as many as the hype surrounding the team suggests.

Everton are in disarray but even their losses in recent weeks have been by only one or two-goal margins. A Leicester win looks on the cards but, in order to squeeze out some extra value, backing that result in a match featuring four or fewer goals could be the wisest approach.

Key stat

Under 4.5 goals has landed in ten of Everton's last 11 matches in all competitions.
