Match Preview

Sunday's 0-0 draw at Anfield means Manchester United have now clocked up a calendar year since they last lost a Premier League away game, and they can continue their impressive road exploits by coming good at Craven Cottage.

But while a few weeks ago this fixture might have looked like a stroll for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's highflyers, that doesn't seem the case now.

United are still going well but Fulham are starting to paper over the cracks which were their undoing earlier in the campaign.

Following on from Saturday's heroic defensive effort against Chelsea – their ten men were eventually unlocked by Mason Mount – they can lose with dignity once again.

Given the quality United have on their bench, the fact they have been level at half-time in ten of their Premier League matches, and that they have won nine second halves makes the draw-United double result look a better bet than taking odds-on prices about the visitors.

United have had a knack of coming on strong after half-time this season with 21 goals scored during second periods compared to 13 in first halves. Fulham have scored just six times after the break and only 14 overall.

The Cottagers look light up front with Scott Parker complaining that he has only one recognised number nine at the club in Alexander Mitrovic.

If you're a Fulham fan whose glass is half full, the Whites have lost only one of their last seven games in all competitions. If the glass is half empty they have no 90-minute wins in their last eight.

They have unquestionably improved since going to five at the back and have become more resilient – in the last two months they have won at Leicester and held Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham. Their last eight matches have yielded only nine goals.

But United's likely onslaught, with so many attacking options to come off the bench, should determine the outcome.

Solskjaer will make changes as this game comes so soon after the 0-0 draw at Liverpool, but that is just as well because Anthony Martial needs to be left out and Paul Pogba shouldn't be playing out wide. Whatever tweaks the Norwegian makes will surely improve them.

Key stat

Manchester United have been level at half-time in ten of their 18 Premier League matches.
