Premier League: Everton v Tottenham

Where to watch

Sky Sports Premier League & Main Event, 4.30pm Sunday

Match odds

9-5 Everton
17-11 Tottenham
5-2 Draw

Form

These teams are performing well below pre-season expectations and with both in the Premier League's bottom half the spotlight is on their managers.

Everton's Marco Silva remains second favourite at 3-1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his current position despite the Toffees securing their spot in the EFL Cup quarter-finals thanks to a 2-0 success over Watford on Tuesday.

Everton, in 16th, have lost five of their last six Premier League matches and yet, given the contested nature of the table, they would go above Spurs with a victory.

Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham were beaten 2-1 at league leaders Liverpool last week and have not won away since their dramatic 3-2 Champions League semi-final second leg at Ajax on May 8. Poch is 14-1 in the sack race.

Team news

Silva must check on defender Yerry Mina after the Colombian picked up a minor problem against Watford and Bernando is unlikely to be involved. Jean-Philippe Gbamin is definitely ruled out.

Spurs remain without their first-choice keeper and captain Hugo Lloris, while Erik Lamela is doubtful. Left-back Danny Rose is suspended with Ben Davies likely to take his place.

The tactical battle

Everton's big problem - and it has been the case since Romelu Lukaku's departure - is the central striking role with Richarlison favourite to get the nod ahead of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and disappointing summer signing Moise Kean.

Silva attempted to use Kean out wide against West Ham before hooking the former Juventus forward for Theo Walcott and the manager was rewarded with a much-improved second-half show.

Everton continue to use a 4-2-3-1 formation but Spurs are difficult to nail down as Pochettino goes in search of a better balance to his team.

The narrow 4-5-1 made them more solid at Liverpool last week and Everton's full-backs don't possess the same kind of threat as the Reds dynamic duo of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson so Pochettino may be tempted to go with something similar.

Verdict

Tottenham have had to wait a long while - since January 20 to be exact - for a Premier League away win, but they look overpriced to beat Everton.

They may not be able to do it quite in the style of last season's 6-2 success, however, Spurs have a twin goal threat with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son and their performances at Liverpool last week and in the recent 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade suggest Pochettino's outfit are improving. Tottenham win 2-1.
