Team news
Everton
Midfielder Alex Iwobi could be available but Michael Keane, Andros Townsend and Nathan Patterson are sidelined.
Southampton
Armel Bella-Kotchap, Stuart Armstrong and Juan Larios are all out.
Match preview
It would only take a few good results to drag either Everton or Southampton out of the bottom three but supporting evidence for such eventualities is scarce.
The Saints have lost their last six league games and are bottom of the pile, but at least a couple of cup victories in the last week have given under-fire new boss Nathan Jones a lift.
Everton counterpart Frank Lampard would love a similar tonic and the Goodison crowd won't hold back if they see anything as dismal as the 4-1 defeat to Brighton the last time they were at home.
So we should see some positivity with Southampton wanting to show their League Cup win over Manchester City was no fluke and the Toffees just desperate to have something good to shout about.
The Toffees have conceded ten goals in their last five home games while Southampton have kept one away clean sheet since October 2021, so expect both defences to be breached.
Key stat
Both teams have scored in five of Southampton's last six Premier League matches.
