Team news

Everton
Amadou Onana is suspended for the Toffees after an accumulation of yellow cards, while James Garner is set to miss out and Anthony Gordon and Yerry Mina are suffering from illness.

Brighton
Danny Welbeck, Jakub Moder and Adam Webster are out but Moises Caicedo is set to return from suspension and Alexis MacAllister is back after winning the World Cup with Argentina.

Match preview

Everton wrapped up a disappointing 2022 with a resolute 1-1 draw at Manchester City but they could start the new year on the back foot when they welcome a dangerous Brighton side to Goodison Park.

The Toffees battled bravely at the Etihad on New Year's Eve, taking an important point off City and scoring with their only shot on target, but performances this season have been drab and devoid of creativity.

Everton have scored only 13 times in their 17 league games and could learn a lesson or two from top-heavy Brighton, who are averaging 1.75 goals per game.

The Seagulls are nestled in mid-table and since returning from the World Cup break they have beaten Southampton 3-1 and showed character in a 4-2 defeat to league leaders Arsenal.

They are a far stronger side going forwards and are value to take maximum points.

Everton have won only two of their eight home games in the Premier League this season.
