Wilfried Zaha missed Monday's defeat at Burnley after a failed Covid test and will sit this match out too.

Newcastle
Newcastle will welcome back top scorer Callum Wilson but manager Steve Bruce said "two or three" players are self-isolating.

Match preview

Figuring out who blinks first in the battle between two managers who live and die by the counter-attack may well determine how you want to bet on these two unusual sides.

Only three clubs in the top flight this season boast sub-40 percent possession stats – and two of them are meeting at Selhurst Park.

There's a clamour on Tyneside for Steve Bruce to gamble on something more adventurous but that would fly in the face of everything we know about his approach in 16 months at Newcastle.

Roy Hodgson is equally aware of the need for a solid platform and launching his ace fliers whenever opportunities arise. That's Palace's strength.

The very real likelihood is, therefore, that these two will cancel each other out, as they did in last season's double header which produced a pair of 1-0 wins to the home sides on teh day. Indeed, the last seven Premier League matches between these two have produced just seven goals and never more than two in a game.

Under 2.5 goals is a 4-6 shot and, even this season, when top-flight matches are going at three goals per game, there is no compulsion to think this fixture is suddenly going to turn into a feast of entertainment.

If there aren't many goals then the draw becomes a big runner in the outright market.

Palace have scored more than two in a home game only once in 18 months and that was last time out, against Leeds, who played into Eagles' hands with a wide-open approach which Newcastle will not emulate.

Key stat

Newcastle are allowing 16.2 shots per game, the most in the Premier League
