Match preview
Liverpool needed a miraculous goal from keeper Allison to keep their top-four ambitions on track at West Brom but they shouldn't have to dig that deep into their bag of tricks to see off Burnley.
The Reds moved within touching distance of fourth thanks to their remarkable 95th-minute winner, heaping the pressure on Chelsea and Leicester above them in the race for Champions League qualification.
Liverpool's form on their travels has kept them in the hunt for fourth and they have won seven of their last nine Premier League away games.
Jurgen Klopp's men are short-priced favourites to add another win to their tally at one of their favourite stomping grounds, Turf Moor, where they have won on five of their last six visits.
Burnley did get the better of Liverpool in the reverse fixture but they are without a home win since January and were thumped 4-0 by a clinical Leeds side at the weekend. The scoreline did slightly flatter the Whites, with the Clarets having done enough to grab at least a consolation.
That result ended a nine-game run in which Burnley had scored at least once but they should get chances against Liverpool’s promising but still vulnerable centre-back pairing of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.
The young duo face an uncomfortable evening up against Chris Wood as the New Zealander has done a good job of bullying his opponents of late to score eight goals in his last nine games.
Even with Burnley carrying a viable threat, that’s unlikely to be enough to see them spring a surprise on the night fans return to Turf Moor.
Liverpool have equalled their longest winning run of the season with three victories in a row and, having clawed their way back into top-four contention, Klopp can’t afford for his team to slip up now as he seeks improvement in front of goal.
A return of ten goals from Liverpool’s last five games doesn’t reflect the glut of chances they continue to create with only the league’s joint-top scorer Mohamed Salah converting opportunities on a regular basis.
The Reds’ misfiring frontline could get a helping hand from a Burnley side who may be without missing first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope, while they have only kept three clean sheets at home all season.
Key stat
Both teams to score has landed in seven of Burnley's last ten games and in six of Liverpool's last eight.
