Match preview

Everton's seven-match winning streak at the start of the season is an increasingly distant memory and the tottering Toffees look uneasy favourites for their Premier League trip to Burnley.

Carlo Ancelotti's men made a blistering start to their 2020-21 campaign with a 1-0 win at Tottenham followed by harum-scarum victories over West Brom (5-2), West Ham (4-1) and Brighton (4-2).

They could afford a bit of defensive generosity while Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Rodriguez and Richarlison were rattling in the goals at the other end.

However, that lack of clean sheets, along with some key injuries, is starting to hurt Everton now and they arrive at Turf Moor on a run of four defeats in five league games.

It would have been five in six but for a controversial VAR decision that denied Liverpool a winner in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park and Everton were also clinging on at the end of their recent 3-2 victory at Fulham.

With influential full-backs Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne injured, Everton are worth opposing at Burnley despite the Clarets' struggles this season.

They were walloped 5-0 at Manchester City last weekend but had kept clean sheets in five games before that, including a 1-0 home win over Crystal Palace.

Burnley's injury crisis is slowly easing and they should have England goalkeeper Nick Pope back between the sticks against Everton.

Ben Mee and James Tarkowski are a solid centre-back partnership while Chris Wood, Jay Rodriguez, Ashley Barnes and Dwight McNeil can cause problems for Everton's rickety defence.

Key stat

Everton have conceded at least twice in seven of their last nine Premier League matches.
