Match preview

Marcelo Bielsa, a keen student of Leeds's Premier League opponents, claimed on Friday that Brighton are "a team unfairly in the bottom part of the table".

The contrast between the 17th-placed Seagulls' impressive xG stats and their lowly league status has baffled pundits and punters this season and Bielsa is full of respect for the way Graham Potter's side play.

Brighton's back-to-back wins over Southampton and Newcastle in March should prove enough to stave off relegation but they have scored only once in four games since then and lost 1-0 at relegated Sheffield United last weekend after going off at odds of 3-4.

Potter's men should be grateful that Fulham's revival has run out of steam in the past couple of months and, despite all the positive aspects of their football, they are easy to swerve against Leeds.

Brighton have won only two of their last 20 home league games, drawing eight of their last 14, and the stalemate is worth a bet against Bielsa's boys, who are unbeaten in six games.

That run includes draws with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United as well as a 2-1 win at champions-elect Manchester City where they played the entire second half with ten men.

Leeds's defensive improvement was demonstrated by Sunday's 0-0 draw with the Red Devils, who beat them 6-2 in a chaotic reverse fixture in December.

They lost 1-0 at home to Brighton in January but have won ten of their other 11 games against bottom-eight clubs and can stand firm on the Sussex coast.

Key stat

Brighton have won only two of their last 20 home Premier League matches.
