Match preview

Mikel Arteta hailed "a special day" for Arsenal as they ended a woeful run of form with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Boxing Day.

Having scored just four goals in their previous ten Premier League matches, the Gunners found themselves 3-0 up on the Blues within an hour thanks to a penalty from Alexandre Lacazette, a Granit Xhaka free kick and Bukayo Saka's misdirected cross.

The pressure on Arteta has eased thanks to Laca, Xhaka and Saka but should you be a backer of Arsenal at Brighton?

On one hand, the Seagulls have won only one of their last 16 home games in the league. On the other, that victory came against Arsenal in June.

While Brighton are finding victories hard to come by, four of their last five matches at the Amex Stadium have finished all-square, including a 1-1 draw with champions Liverpool.

Graham Potter's men also played well in defeats to Chelsea (3-1) and Manchester United (3-2), so it could pay to back both teams to score for the seventh time in eight games at the Amex this term.

Arsenal have been on a miserable goalscoring run in the league but they still have a fine array of creative talents.

Gabriel Martinelli's return to fitness pepped up their attack against Chelsea while fellow youngsters Saka and Emile Smith Rowe also caught the eye and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should be fit to start following a calf injury.

Both teams have scored in seven of the Gunners' last nine matches in all competitions and the win over Chelsea should boost a group of players who looked as though the world was against them in recent weeks.

The Gunners' away record this season is mediocre but they have had a tough run of fixtures. Since an opening-weekend 3-0 win at Fulham, they have lost at Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City and highflying Everton, won 1-0 at Manchester United, and drawn 0-0 at Leeds despite having Nicolas Pepe sent off early in the second half.

Brighton's woeful home record should encourage a positive approach from the visitors, although Potter's men will also be confident of landing a blow.

They led twice in Sunday's 2-2 draw at West Ham and Lewis Dunk, one of their goalscorers at the London Stadium, will pose a threat to the Gunners from set-pieces.

While Brighton have scored only twice in four draws with teams below them in the table, they have notched in all but one of their 11 matches against sides above them and that trend looks set to continue.

Key stat

Brighton have won only two of their last 20 Premier League home matches.
