Match preview

Leicester slipped down to fourth in the Premier League despite Jamie Vardy's late equaliser at Arsenal on Tuesday and the fine form of Chelsea and Manchester United means the Foxes cannot afford to drop more points at relegation-threatened Bournemouth.

Brendan Rodgers' men claimed their first league win since the season restarted with a 3-0 home victory over Crystal Palace last weekend, when Vardy scored his 100th and 101st top-flight goals for the club.

However, the security of their position in the top three had already been eroded by a 1-1 draw with lowly Watford, a goalless stalemate against Brighton in which the Seagulls missed a penalty, and a 2-1 defeat at Everton.

Leicester are struggling to match the high standards they set during a golden run of 12 wins in 14 games between late August and early December.

That sequence included a 9-0 rout of Bournemouth's neighbours Southampton at St Mary's but the Foxes will settle for a narrower margin of victory on their latest visit to the south coast.

Injuries to playmaker James Maddison and influential full-backs Ricardo Pereira and Ben Chilwell have hampered Leicester since the restart and Bournemouth gave Tottenham an awkward game on Thursday night.

Callum Wilson's late strike was ruled out by VAR, although Spurs should have had a penalty earlier in the game, but the goalless draw did little to help the Cherries' chances of staying up.

Eddie Howe's side have taken just two points from their last nine games although the fact that they denied Tottenham a shot on target was a bright spark after heavy defeats to Manchester United (5-2) and Newcastle (4-1).

Grinding out draws is not going to keep Bournemouth up, however, so they will have to attack Leicester, especially as their next fixture is a daunting trip to Manchester City on Wednesday.

That may well play into the Foxes' hands given the threat of Vardy and his fellow forwards on the counter-attack so it could be worth splitting stakes between a 2-1 and a 3-1 Leicester victory.

Bournemouth have shown they can score against the top teams in the division. They took the lead at Old Trafford last weekend and Wilson put them ahead in the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield just before the break.

Earlier in the season the Cherries beat Manchester United at home and Chelsea away and the Blues needed an 85th-minute goal to earn a 2-2 draw at Dean Court in February.

However, those results were faint flickers of light in an increasingly gloomy season for Bournemouth. Even if Leicester are not at their best, they are still 31 points clear of their hosts and can maintain their push for a Champions League place by taking three points.

Key stat

Leicester have kept only two clean sheets in their last ten away Premier League matches.
