Match preview

Jose Mourinho's primary task during his first full season in charge of Tottenham is delivering silverware and they can move a step closer to FA Cup glory by beating Wycombe.

Just over a month ago Spurs were being touted as potential title challengers in the Premier League before defeats to Liverpool and Leicester saw them lose ground.

Tottenham's form does appear to be back in the ascendancy after they embarked on a seven-match unbeaten streak which is likely to be extended on Monday.

After easing through their third-round tie with non-league Marine, the trip to Championship strugglers Wycombe looks set to be another comfortable evening.

The Chairboys are rock-bottom of the second tier and their chances of upsetting top-flight opponents appear to be even slimmer due to a lack of game time this month.

A Covid-19 outbreak at the club means Gareth Ainsworth's men haven't played a game since beating Preston 4-1 in the previous round on January 9.

History suggests Spurs should have far too much after progressing from 20 of their last 21 FA Cup ties against teams from a lower division.

Wycombe went close to earning a famous victory in their only other competitive meeting with Tottenham at the same stage of the competition in 2016-17.

They led 3-2 at White Hart Lane in the 89th minute but late goals from Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son helped the hosts avoid an embarrassing defeat as they came through 4-3.

Mourinho has said he will name a strong side for the clash, as he did for the trip to Marine, and the starting line-up should boast some high-calibre players.

Alli, who was handed a rare outing in the previous round, is expected to miss out due to a tendon issue but Champions League winner Gareth Bale should be given the chance to get some much-needed minutes.

Benfica loanee Carlos Vinicius is likely to be Spurs's main threat in the final third after bagging a hat-trick at Marine to take his seasonal tally to six in all competitions.

The main positive for Wycombe is the fact that they have been handed a home draw, with ten of their 15 points in the Championship coming at Adams Park.

But it's worth considering that they have the joint-worst defensive record in the second tier, conceding 35 times, while they have also struggled at the other end and have the third-lowest tally of goals scored.

Breaching a Tottenham defence that has been extremely well organised this term could prove difficult for a team who have lost seven of their eight FA Cup ties against top-flight opposition.

Key stat

Wycombe have lost to nil in eight of their 14 Championship defeats this season.
