Match preview

Championship highflyers Brentford host Premier League title contenders Leicester in an intriguing FA Cup clash but the Foxes can steer clear of an upset.

The Bees are clearly one of the best sides in the second tier and under normal circumstances you might expect Thomas Frank’s side to give the Foxes a run for their money.

Brentford also caught the eye with their run in the League Cup this term, where they turned over Southampton, West Brom, Fulham and Newcastle before falling to Spurs in the semi-final.

However, promotion is very much the priority for the Bees this season and that could be evident in Frank’s team selection.

The fixtures are mounting up for the Londoners and even in a normal season the demands of the Championship are unrelenting.

Frank has freshened up his side for the majority of cup games this term and his hand has been forced this time with top scorer Ivan Toney and midfield man Josh Dasilva suspended, while captain Pontus Jansson is a long-term absentee. The Bees have also just recovered form a Covid-19 outbreak.

Brendan Rodgers may also look to rotate his side, as he has done previously this season, but the Foxes have the depth to absorb any changes.

Leicester still fielded a team containing high-quality performers such as Jonny Evans, Youri Tielemans and Ayoze Perez in their 4-0 win at Stoke in the third round of this competition and that sort of line-up should be too strong for the Bees.

The even-money available about a Leicester win earlier in the week has disappeared, but the Foxes still look a solid bet and they can also give the Bees a handicap start.
