Swede dreams may not be over just yet
Swedish golf fans have waited ages for their first major champion – and on Sunday they finally got one, the magnificent Henrik Stenson at Royal Troon.
And there could be a second within a week with their finest player of the 1990s, Jesper Parnevik, capturing the Senior Open at another great Scottish links, Carnoustie.
Parnevik would have been Sweden’s first major hero 22 years ago if only he’d looked at the scoreboard. Instead, thinking he needed to birdie the last at Turnberry, he went for the pin, came up short, dropped a stroke and Open victory went to Nick Price.
