Slick Fleetwood is on the right track
Palmer’s top tip
Tommy Fleetwood 30-1
The Grove returns to the European Tour schedule after a decade of absence since Tiger Woods destroyed the Watford track in the AmEx Championship. Laserlike iron-shots were the key to Tiger’s triumph and an increasingly assured Tommy Fleetwood looks well equipped to produce a similar performance this week.
Woods was fourth for driving accuracy in that 2006 Grove romp, the one statistic in which the great man rarely impressed, and first for greens in regulation. Avoiding the rough off the tee and getting close to the flag on approach are the keys to success at a layout with large, complex, undulating and fast greens. Three-jabs are common if putting from distance.
The way Fleetwood has been swinging over the last couple of months suggests he will handle the Grove challenge better than most and a second European Tour title could be coming if the Southport lad holes a few putts.
