Masters winner Sergio Garcia and defending champion Jimmy Walker were among a host of big names who failed to make the cut at the USPGA Championship.

Jason Day, who won the tournament two years ago at Whistling Straits, pushed himself into contention with a five-under-par 66.

The cut fell at five over and Justin Rose, Bubba Watson, Padraig Harrington and Phil Mickelson joined Garcia and Walker in failing to qualify for the final two rounds.

Walker hit a second-round 69, but the damage had already been done after he carded a woeful opening 81.
