Match preview

Manchester United are back at Old Trafford for the first time in over a month and should have little difficulty marking the return with a win over Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League.

A week after United won 3-2 in a thoroughly entertaining affair in the Cypriot capital, they can complete the double over Neil Lennon's charges and once again it should be a fun watch.

Since United's last appearance on home soil they have played four away matches scoring at least twice in all of them, as Ten Hag finally gets a tune out of his squad as an attacking force.

Clearly, the Dutchman is going to make a tweak or two to his side given three Premier League games in six days next week against Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea.

But Ten Hag's new, expanded squad looks more and more cohesive and capable and mid-table Omonia may not have the game to really challenge the Manchester giants.

In Nicosia last Thursday, Lennon's lot had just 27 per cent possession although they still managed to fire off eight shots, four of them on target, two of them going in.

They surely won’t have enough of the ball to trouble United over 90 minutes but they also found the net away at Real Sociedad in a 2-1 loss and can help land a United and both teams to score bet.

Karim Ansarifard, a scorer in the first leg, is a likely World Cup starter for Iran against England and Omonia under Lennon are generally a positive outfit. They've gone 12 matches without a draw this season, a sequence that includes home-and-away wins over decent Belgian side Gent in the qualifying stages of this competition.

Ten Hag may take this game as an opportunity to give the likes of Facundo Pellistri and Charlie McNeill, although he has stuck with a nucleus of players so far and is unlikely to take too many liberties.

They have won seven of their last nine and can make it eight out of ten to stay in the scrap with Sociedad for top spot and a bye in the first knockout stage.

Key stat

Manchester United have kept only one clean sheet in their last nine home games.
