Louis can build on a solid start

Everyone around the even-par mark after the first round of the Honda Classic will know they have to raise their game to extend their Florida stay into the weekend, but one player who should be able to kick on is Louis Oosthuizen.

The South African hit a 70 in Thursday's opening spin, but he played solidly and was unfortunate that his round was marred by a double bogey on the 17th after the former Open champion found the water on the par three.

Having started his round on the tenth, he was able to recover with two birdies on the front nine of the course which is regarded as one of the toughest visited by the PGA Tour. That should give him the confidence to book his place in the final two rounds of the tournament.

He should be backed at 11-10 to come out on top of his threeball with Americans Harris English and Jeff Overton, which tees off at 5.55pm GMT.

English started the second round a shot behind Oosthuizen, but he struggled with accuracy on the first day.

The fact that he found just four fairways put great strain on his approach play and while that stood up to the task it is a bit of a leap of faith that his second shots will be as good again.

He finished 18th at PGA National in 2012 but has missed the cut on his two subsequent appearances so he could slip away.

Overton has plenty of work to do after a dismal 76 which included three double bogeys, none of which were caused by finding water.

He has claimed three top-ten finishes in the event but he could easily lose focus if the cut line sails out of view.
