The King’s Cup, a new European Tour event starting in Thailand tonight, will be emphatically overshadowed by the USPGA Championship this week, but there could be money to be made in supporting the local lads.

The King’s Cup started as an Asian Tour event in 2009 and has been staged at two different courses in Thailand. It moves to Phoenix Gold Golf Club for the first time this week. The last four champions have been Thai and there is a good chance the streak will continue.

Prom Meesawat, nicknamed the Big Dolphin by his peers, could make the most significant waves of all at the short, fiddly par-70 PGGC.
