Back Zach to crack easy Illinois track
Palmer’s top tip
Zach Johnson 15-2
John Deere Classic board member Zach Johnson has become a perennial title contender in the event he helps organise and it is difficult to resist the favourite for this year’s gathering at TPC Deere Run.
From 2009 to 2015, Johnson’s JDC form figures are 2-21-3-1-2-2-3. He lost a playoff to Jordan Spieth in 2013. The course, demanding neat and tidy golf from tee to green before flat-stick fireworks, is right up Johnson’s alley. His last 28 rounds there have been sub-70.
There is no Spieth to worry about this time – the champion would fear a lynching if he teed up in the JDC having turned down the chance to play for the USA in the Olympics – and Johnson is the undoubted top dog in the field.
