USA hold a 6-4 lead at the halfway stage of the 2018 Mosconi Cup at the Alexandra Palace and they are now 8-11 favourites to win the annual contest for the first time since 2009.

Singles wins for Jayson Shaw and Albin Ouschan had helped Europe level the scores at 4-4 midway through Wednesday's session but Billy Thorpe enabled the Americans to win the final two matches of the evening to put them in the ascendancy heading into day three.

Ouschan and US lynchpin Shane van Boening lead the individual standings with three points apiece and occupy the first two positions in the top combined pointscorer standings.

Austria's Ouschan is 7-4 favourite with Hills in that market but Van Boening could be the bet at 3-1 with the man from South Dakota likely to play twice more on Thursday and be given a prominent position in America's singles line-up.

Thursday's action sees the teams play three doubles and two singles matches before Friday's final singles.

Recommendation
S van Boening top points scorer
1pt 3-1 Hills
