Match preview

Championship leaders Burnley needed two injury-time goals to claim a dramatic 3-2 success at home to Rotherham on Wednesday, but they are unbeaten in 16 matches and look the likelier winners against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Clarets manager Vincent Kompany conceded that there were faults in the midweek performance and will be urging his team to tighten up for one of their toughest away trips of the campaign.

However, Burnley have been getting a lot of things right and are the division's highest scorers with 35 goals.

There was talk of Burnley adding another striker in the summer but long-serving centre-forward Jay Rodriguez is joint-top of the second-tier scoring charts with nine goals, and he is ably assisted by Anass Zaroury, Manuel Benson and Nathan Tella, who are key offensive elements among an exciting group.

Kompany often has a tough task selecting his team and Burnley's squad depth must be the envy of Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom, who has been hampered by a lengthy absentee list for much of the campaign.

The third-placed Blades went through a six-game winless run in October and their recent victories away to West Brom and Bristol City came as a massive relief, even though they were not entirely convincing performances.

Heckingbottom admitted his team were poor in Tuesday's success at Bristol City and he needs the players to continue digging deep in the run up the the World Cup.

A much-needed break is on the horizon but for now the challenges are coming thick and fast and United's clash against Burnley could be a match too far.
