Match preview

Northampton have earned a reputation as one of League Two’s big-game performers and the Cobblers can bolster their automatic promotion aspirations with victory at Salford.

Jon Brady’s men have had no problem responding to setbacks this season and, having seen their nine-game unbeaten run come to an end with defeat against Swindon, they began 2023 with a bang when they ground out a 1-0 win over leaders Leyton Orient.

With only one defeat in 11 away games the third-placed Cobblers have excelled on their travels and that record includes victories at second-placed Stevenage and playoff occupants Bradford and Swindon.

Salford may also have high hopes of breaking into the playoff picture and they will take plenty of inspiration from their 1-0 win at Sixfields in early October.

But that was a game of few chances and the Ammies have struggled on home soil, where they have taken only 13 of their 35 points and have gone eight matches without a win.

Key stat

Northampton have lost only one of their last 11 League Two matches.
