Monday's EFL preview

West Brom are rapidly climbing the Championship table under Carlos Corberan and the Baggies look poised to continue their charge towards the playoff places by defeating Reading at the Hawthorns.

Coberan's October appointment brought about immediate improvement from West Brom, who went into the World Cup break on a three-match winning run.

The West Midlands club picked up where they left off after the resumption with victories over Sunderland and Rotherham before suffering a pre-Christmas setback when going down 1-0 at Coventry.

However, they bounced back with consecutive 2-0 wins over Bristol City and Preston which have taken West Brom to within touching distance of the top six, extending Corberan's record to an impressive seven victories from nine games as the Baggies' boss.

That spells trouble for a Reading side who have picked up just 11 of their 36-point tally on the road.

Regardless of whether they win or lose, the Baggies have work to do to catch leaders Burnley and Vincent Kompany's Clarets are taken to cement their position at the top of the table with victory at Swansea.

The Swans have shortened in the betting after beating Watford 4-0 on Friday, although they were previously winless in eight games and that victory arguably says more about Watford's current injury crisis than it does about any improvement from Russell Martin's men.

Swansea have performed better than their results suggest but Burnley have been superb in winning nine of their last ten league matches and look overpriced.

In League One, Barnsley look a bet at odds-against to defeat Bolton.

The Tykes have been in excellent form recently, particularly at Oakwell, where they have won their last five matches in all competitions.

Bolton are unbeaten in three but they mustered just three shots on goal across their last two matches and their away points total this season - 13 from 11 matches - is significantly worse than their home tally (24 from 12).
