EFL matches from 7.45pm Tuesday

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth has all but ended Sunderland’s Sky Bet League One automatic promotion hopes but there is still a big incentive in finishing the season in third place and they can enhance their chances with victory at Fleetwood.

Pinching third place would ensure Sunderland enjoy an easier passage through the playoffs with either Doncaster or Peterborough their opponents over the two-legged tie instead of the more challenging showdown with Portsmouth or Charlton.

The Black Cats have lost just two of their 21 road games and they should fancy their chances of coming out on top at Fleetwood, who are winless in five and looking short on motivation.

Luton, Barnsley and Portsmouth - the current top three - have all won at Highbury and the promotion-seeking Black Cats can also claim maximum points in Lancashire.

Newport are pursuing a playoff place of their own in Sky Bet League Two and they can leapfrog Exeter into seventh by winning at home to Oldham.

The Exiles are unbeaten in eight, which includes successive home wins over Bury and Lincoln, and their defensive stubbornness could frustrate the guests.

Michael Flynn's men have conceded only twice in their last 11 league games at Rodney Parade, while the Latics have failed to score in three of their last four on the road.
