Man City's bid for a historic quadruple came to an end after a thrilling night of Champions League football as they were dumped out of the competition by Tottenham in a drama-laden evening at the Etihad.

City, who trailed 1-0 after the first leg, won the match 4-3 but it was not enough as Spurs progressed on away goals on a night where a tie-winning Raheem Sterling injury-time goal was ruled out by VAR.

Betway make Barcelona their 6-4 favourites to lift the trophy while their semi-final opponents Liverpool are 11-4 second favourites after they eased past Porto 6-1 on aggregate. Spurs are 4-1 while Ajax are 9-2 outsiders.

City took the lead after just four minutes courtesy of Sterling's first goal at the beginning of a frenetic period which featured five goals in 17 minutes.

Heung-Min Son equalised for Tottenham after seven minutes and scored again just three minutes later to put Mauricio Pochettino's visitors 3-1 up on aggregate and firmly in control of the tie.

Spurs hit a low of 1.34 to qualify on the Betfair Exchange but their lead lasted just 60 seconds as Bernardo Silva drew the teams level before Sterling's 21st-minute second took Pep Guardiola's men into a 3-2 lead at half-time.

City dominated the early stages of the second half and their persistence was rewarded when Sergio Aguero put them ahead in the tie for the first time in the 59th minute as they hit 1-8 in running with William Hill.

But Fernando Llorente put Spurs back in front on away goals in the 73rd minute as VAR intervened for the first time in the match, ruling that the Spanish striker had not turned the ball into the City net with his hand.

With City needing a goal to progress, Sterling looked to have won it for the home side, only for his effort to be ruled out with Aguero offside in the build-up.

Liverpool, who are no strangers to high-pressure European nights, were never really in danger of forfeiting a 2-0 first-leg lead against Porto as they registered a 4-1 victory in Portugal.

The Reds took the lead after Sadio Mane's first-half effort passed a VAR check before Mo Salah doubled their advantage. Eder Militao pulled one back for the Dragons but goals from Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk saw Jurgen Klopp's men into the last four.
