Ayr unlikely to relinquish their hold on top spot

Raith can't match leaders for goals

Ayr United's superior firepower should blast them out of Ladbrokes League One and back into the Championship.

Ian McCall's men have been the goal machines of Scottish football this season. They average almost three goals per game and have also battered plenty in the cup competitions too.

Craig Moore, Lawrence Shankland and veteran hitman Michael Moffat are too much for most teams. Moore, for example, has grabbed most of his goals via the bench, such is the embarrassment of riches for Ayr, whose decision to go full-time appears to have paid off. They were our tips to win the league at the outset and there's no reason to think otherwise.

Raith will remain their biggest threat, but they don't seem to be able to match the scoring power of Ayr.

Realistically, it will be a two-horse race for the title with Alloa and Arbroath likely to claim the other two playoff places.

Queen's Park face a huge battle to avoid relegation, but they have a shrewd manager in Gus MacPherson and are well organised. Goals have been their problem, but if they can sort that out, they could overtake Forfar.

Airdrie have huge off-field problems and could collapse. Stranraer and Albion Rovers should have enough about them not to get dragged into the relegation dogfight.
