Jonas Vingegaard moved one step closer to winning the Tour de France after the Dane produced a dominant display on the final mountain stage of this year's race on Thursday.

Much like on stage 11 last week which handed the Dane the race lead, Vingegaard rode away from principal rival Tadej Pogacar on the final climb, adding over one minute to his advantage over the Slovene with three stages remaining.

Vingegaard, who is 1-50 with bet365 to win a first Tour title, leads the general classification by 3mins 26secs. He is also now top of the mountains classification on 72 points, eight points clear of Simon Geschke with only three fourth-category climbs, which give the first over the top three points, remaining in the race.

Stage 19 would appear one for the sprinters but given the energy the speedsters have had to expend just to make it inside the time cut over the last couple of days, there is every chance that a breakaway could take advantage or an opportunist attack in the final kilometres may pay dividends.

If it does end up in a sprint then Belgian aces Jasper Philipsen and green jersey winner-in-waiting Wout van Aert are the two who seem likeliest to fight out the finish.

There are no real obvious obstacles to negotiate with the day's two categorised climbs crested 53 and 31 kilometres from the finish respectively, although the run in to the line slightly drags up hill.
