Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Ayr

Red Danielle

3.20 Ayr

Red Danielle showed her best form with cut in the ground last season, finishing second to classy subsequent Group performer Sweet Memories at Newbury in July on good to soft going. The front two pulled four lengths clear of the remainder that day.

The selection proved she goes on faster ground when running away with a novice by 11 lengths at Yarmouth in August, albeit at odds of 1-33, and nearly gained a Listed win at Saint-Cloud on her final outing of the season when beaten three-quarters of a length into second on heavy going.

Those runs came for Roger Varian, but she now makes her debut for William Haggas after being sold for 300,000gns in December. Haggas is the best in Britain in my book and Red Danielle looks open to further progress for her new trainer, who won this race in 2022 with My Astra.

Red Danielle showed a tendency to race keenly last season and it’s a small concern she might overrace on her return from a 205-day break but, provided she settles, she shouldn’t be lacking fitness and there is a chance Cieren Fallon may let her use her stride in front anyway.
