Wednesday's big story

The star attraction on Wednesday is the Group 1 Juddmonte International (3.35), which last year was named as the world's best race. This year's build-up took a major twist on Monday when leading three-year-old St Mark's Basilica was ruled out through injury, but luckily his powerful owners Coolmore and trainer Aidan O'Brien have a wealth of talent at their disposal and have drafted in last year's leading filly Love to fly the flag. Love was a dominant winner of the Yorkshire Oaks here in 2020, but suffered a first defeat since her juvenile days when third to Derby winner Adayar at Ascot last time. In second that day was the John and Thady Gosden-trained Mishriff, who has long had the Juddmonte as a target and looks primed to make a major challenge for his first Group 1 on British soil.

Wednesday's best bet

3.35 York

Yet to win a Group 1 in Britain, but won't get many better chances now ante-post favourite St Mark's Basilica has been ruled out.

He had Aidan O'Brien's stand-in Love behind him when second to Adayar in the King George and a repeat ought to be good enough as Alcohol Free is a doubtful stayer at the trip and the rest don't look good enough.

Wednesday's best horses

The Juddmonte International (3.35) is not all about the top two in the market with Alcohol Free, a Group 1 winner at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood, forming a strong supporting cast alongside Mohaafeth and Alenquer.

High Definition was long considered favourite for the Derby at Epsom, but has disappointed in his two starts this summer and bids to restore his reputation in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes (3.00).

Leading jockey William Buick rides Kemari in the same race, and also has a strong chance in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes (2.25) with exciting juvenile Noble Truth.
