With Inspiral ruled out, who are our tipsters backing for the 1,000 Guineas?

'The instant acceleration coming out of the Dip seriously impressed me'

Homeless Songs and Discoveries have both been on my radar through the winter, but the juice has gone out of both prices at this stage so the value might lie with Ameynah now.

She was unlucky on her debut in a Newmarmet maiden last October but made no mistake when returning to the venue this month. She only posted an RPR of 93 but it was the instant acceleration coming out of the Dip that seriously impressed me.

The race was over in a couple of strides. The further she went the better she looked and the step up to a mile ought to bring about further improvement. She is still 33-1 with Inspiral out and that looks double what she should be.

'Impressive trial winner favoured with doubts over Tenebrism's stamina'

Homeless Songs had already appealed to me as the most likely winner of this year's Qipco 1,000 Guineas, so the news Inspiral misses the opening fillies' Classic does nothing other than harden that view.

An impressive trial winner at Leopardstown, she has now shortened to 11-2, having been 12-1 during the week, but is still favoured over Tenebrism given the stamina doubts surrounding that rival.

Discoveries looks the biggest danger to Homeless Songs, but there is probably some each-way value to be found in 33-1 shot Ameynah, who created such an excellent impression at Newmarket this month.

She clearly needs to step up plenty from that maiden win but is open to any amount of improvement given her unexposed profile.

'French raider is a cracking each-way bet'

Inspiral’s absence leaves a big opportunity for another horse to step up. Tenebrism will take over as favourite, as she should, but she’s of no interest to me at her current odds.

I’m hoping Francis-Henri Graffard sends Malavath over. She ended her juvenile campaign with a great second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, flying home from an unpromising position.

She backed up that performance with a comfortable success on her return in a seven-furlong heavy ground Deauville Group 3, and she’s entitled to come on plenty from that.

Malavath will relish a return to the mile and quicker going is another tick in the right box. I think she’s a cracking each-way bet at present, as we surely have not seen anywhere near the best of her yet.
