Racehorse Owners Association president Charlie Parker hailed the earlier than expected review of the levy system as "very welcome news indeed" for an industry "in desperate need of finance".

Sports minister Nigel Huddleston revealed in the House of Commons that the government would look at the sport's statutory funding mechanism next year rather than as scheduled in 2024.

Parker, who sits on the Levy Steering Group along with representatives from racecourses, horsemen and the BHA, said on Wednesday: "The fact that the minister stood up and indicated that in 2021 there would be a review was very welcome news indeed."
