Two's company as Oaks favourite Lah Ti Dar stays at home

Epsom's first Breakfast With The Stars open to the public will take place without its biggest draw and a disappointing turnout of just two horses with Investec Oaks favourite Lah Ti Dar not taking part owing to the warm weather.

Investec Derby third favourite Young Rascal is working, along with 16-1 Oaks hope Perfect Clarity, at an event that will also feature telephone interviews with Aidan O'Brien and Charlie Appleby,

But those wishing to see how Andrew Lloyd Webber's filly handles the famous Tattenham Corner will have to wait until the big day itself to find out.

John Gosden has been the event's biggest supporter in recent years, working Taghrooda, Golden Horn and Cracksman before their Classic attempts, but he is not present this time around.

The news is a blow to Epsom, which opens the event up to the public for the first time this year and is now left with just two participants – the William Haggas-trained Chester Vase winner Young Rascal, who is owned by Investec managing director Bernard Kantor and a best-priced 12-1, and Clive Cox's Lingfield Oaks Trial winner Perfect Clarity.

Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper said: "We've been doing it since 2003 and it's an important part of the build-up to the race meeting from participant perspective. It's open to the public first time this year, so there should be a crowd, and while we've had more horses in the past, that always varies.

"The horses who come vary depending on the make-up of the big races. Some trainers now see it as a very useful exercise, while others prefer to do things a different way, but the track record of those who have come in the past is very good. I can't think of one who has performed anything other than as expected – or better on the big day.

"From Casual Look, who attended the very first one, to Motivator, Pour Moi, Taghrooda, Golden Horn and Cracksman, they've all found it a positive experience. We're lighter this year than some others, but we still have leading candidates for both the Derby and Oaks."
