Tonight's racing: three runners who catch the eye at Lingfield and Taunton
Punchestown is the headline act this evening but there are two meetings in Britain as well. All-weather racing at Lingfield is first off at 4.50 on At The Races, while there is jumps action at Taunton from 5.15 on Racing UK. Here are three runners to keep an eye on
Black Sails
5.20 Lingfield
While it is not quite the last chance saloon for Black Sails, connections must have become a tad frustrated to drop her down to claiming company for the first time.
She defeated the likes of Another Batt and US Navy Flag on her debut last year before spending the rest of the season in Group company. Bought by Archie Watson and Clipper Logistics, her performances have gone the wrong way after a promising start.
She needs to pull her finger out this afternoon.
First Selection
6.55 Lingfield
Things could have been so different for First Selection. A Solario winner at two, a close fifth in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and a second in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains followed.
That was then, this is now. Gelded over the winter, the five-year-old bids to get his career back on track having lost his form.
This race is the easiest he has contested for some time and, as long as he does not blow the start (as he did at Chelmsford last time), connections must be hopeful of an improvement performance.
River Dun
7.10 Taunton
Oh what might have been! River Dun was denied a first victory by just a neck on her debut for David Pipe in December. She has not come close since.
The eight-year-old mare is 0-16 in her career but has been given every chance to get that elusive '1' this evening. She is back down to the same mark she ran off on her first start for Pipe and has the talented Rex Dingle taking off a further 7lb.
A big evening awaits.
