Tonight's racing: three runners who catch the eye
Lots to get stuck into tonight with Flat meetings at Nottingham, Ascot and Ripon, with Kilbeggan staging jump racing in Ireland. That card, along with Ripon's, is on At The Races, while Racing UK screens coverage of Nottingham and Ascot. Here are three runners of interest ...
Corrosive
8.10 Ascot
Hugo Palmer features on the hot list and the leading Newmarket trainer will hope for another success with Corrosive, who makes his handicap debut under Josephine Gordon. A son of Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Uncle Mo, Corrosive has won two novice races and defied a penalty in smart style at Yarmouth last month. Palmer clearly thinks plenty of the three-year-old, who is entered in the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Just the 227 miles from Owen Burrows' base in Lambourn to Ripon, so perhaps it is worth noting Fakhoor makes the trip in a bid to get off the mark after three placed efforts. Burrows has had just three runners at the track since he started training and two have won. The mount of Dane O'Neill, Fakhoor, whose rivals include the fellow Lambourn-trained Hula Girl, is having his first start on turf.
For the notebook: Three horses who caught the eye at Chelmsford on Thursday evening
A bumper in which champion trainer Willie Mullins supplies son Patrick with a ride on a favourite. It is a well-trod path to success and Sancta Simona takes that route appearing to have a big chance. Odds-on for her debut at Thurles in December, she bumped into the subsequent Grade 2-placed Rhinestone. She was, however, well clear of the third and looked a likely winner wherever pitched in next.
