Tonight's action: three horses it could pay to follow
It's the first day of the Galway festival, but evening action also takes place at Windsor and Wolverhampton, which will both be available to view on At The Races. Here we pick out one horse it could be worth keeping an eye on from each venue.
Aydoun
5.20 Galway
If Dermot Weld was in any sort of form there is surely no way Aydoun would be double figure odds on this hurdling debut.
The 29 times leading trainer at Galway has not had a Flat winner for 18 days and his jumps drought stretches to 311 days, but he has only had seven runners in that sphere.
Aydoun won a maiden for the Aga Khan before he was beaten in an Ascot Listed race, then changed hands for 200,000 euros.
With the yard out of sorts, he has not reached those heights in two more Flat starts but, switched to a race Weld has won three times in the last seven years and Bryan Cooper booked, that could be about to change.
Seyaady
5.45 Wolverhampton
Seyaady can add further weight to the punting theory of backing topweights in nurseries in the opening race at Wolverhampton.
The Mark Johnston-trained colt rates as a big player on the form of his near-miss at Carlisle on debut and he ran an encouraging race at Beverley last time before fading out of the reckoning close home.
A low draw is a huge advantage in sprints at the course, so he has fared well in stall two and on pedigree he should have no problems handling the surface.
Al Barg
7.15 Windsor
Richard Hannon often says his two-year-olds come on for their first run and will have exactly that expectation of Al Barg following a promising debut at Haydock.
The colt sat off a contested pace, was briefly short of room and finished well to get to within half a length of previous winner Veejay.
That was over 7f but he showed he was not short of pace at Haydock so the drop back to 6f should not present any problems.
