Three runners who catch the eye for tonight's action
As the four meetings across Britain and Ireland this afternoon draw to a close, there is all-weather action at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford to keep racing fans happy. Here are three runners worth noting . . .
He has been in scintillating form since October, winning three times and finishing second twice in his last six races, and the eight-year-old appears poised to continue that run.
Two of those victories came at Wolverhampton, where he has proved comfortable switching between five and six furlongs. Kieran O’Neill has been riding well lately and could land another win as he partners with Shamshon for the first time.
Albert Finney
7.25 Chelmsford
Two of Ryan Moore’s three rides at Chelmsford tonight are likely to go off at odds-on, but there is plenty to like about Albert Finney in the 1m2f Class 5 handicap.
The son of Kingman made all over an extended mile at Wolverhampton three weeks ago, winning with plenty in hand, and Rab Havlin said afterwards his mount would have no problem handling 1m2f.
He receives weight from main rivals Harvey Dent and Red Bond, which enhances the appeal of John Gosden’s three-year-old.
Plumette
8.10 Wolverhampton
She was a comfortable second on her debut at Newcastle last month despite going off at 25-1, and although likely to be odds-on tonight she looks the pick of the field in this Class 5 novice over 7f.
She kept on well on debut, so the step up in trip should suit nicely, especially when factoring in that her dam was a full sister to Big Audio, who was a Listed winner over a mile and tonight’s distance, and Barry McHugh will be in the saddle for his only ride of the day.
