As was the case with Star Wars and The Godfather, the creators of the Racing League will be hoping the sequel is better than the original.

The premiere of the second year of the team-based initiative at Doncaster on Thursday evening got some good reviews, but it is fair to say it fell short of a five-star rating.

With any compelling story you need stars to play the leading roles, and while Sean Levey took the riding honours with a treble, the top jockeys were notable by their absence.
