Sakheer’s credentials for next year’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas will be on the line in Saturday’s Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes (3.00), with both trainer Roger Varian and jockey David Egan hoping the race will confirm their Classic hopes for the juvenile.

Owner Sheikh Khalid Al Khalifa paid £35,000 on Monday to supplement the impressive Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes winner into the Dewhurst, with bookmakers pricing the colt up at 2-1 to win on Saturday and at a general 12-1 for next year’s 2,000 Guineas.

Sakheer will be racing over seven furlongs for the first time in the Dewhurst and Varian outlined that a need to answer questions about the colt’s stamina and ability were behind the decision to run.
