Clonmel

Date visited: Thursday, November 17, 2022

Was it a big day?

It was Clonmel Oil Chase day, the biggest day in the calendar at the track, and outside of the big coursing meeting in February, it is the fixture which would get the biggest attendance.

How much was entry on the gate?

€15, under-18s free

Other than restaurants/hospitality, what were the food and beverage options?

Despite it being a sprawling venue, the public eating and drinking establishments are located in a compact area between the parade ring and the bookmakers' ring.

The club stand bar is located at the top of the grandstand, with the usual array of beers, spirits and wines. It is the only racecourse that has San Miguel on draught, but there was also Guinness, Budweiser and as it has its home in Clonmel, Bulmers.

All pints were €5.50, but no champagne was on offer. The bar was nice and cosy.

The main eating area was in the downstairs Club Stand Restaurant, where the offerings consisted of farmers food with no end of carrot, turnip and cabbage as accompaniment.

Mains included roast beef at €14.50, while for €13.50 you could have bacon with parsley sauce, chicken supreme with pepper sauce, or fillet of cod with tartare sauce.

What's the damage?
