The punters are on a roll - but who will land the spoils on New Year's Day?

Introducing Punter v the Pro, our new tipping competition in which Racing Post readers go head-to-head with top tipster Graeme Rodway.

The format is simple: the punter and the pro both give six selections in ITV races decided by us and whoever comes out on top based on level-stakes profit to SP is the winner. The prize? Sheer pride!

The results will be shared the following day in , our free daily newsletter.

Saturday's result:another victory for the punters!

The punters opened up a clear lead in our new competition, thanks to another successful day led by Alan Meston. Alan gave two winners – Gamaret (5-2f) and Hermes Allen (11-10f, also picked by Graeme) – and that was enough to secure the victory. G-Rod continues to hit the bar and tipped placed horses at 18-1 and 11-1. Can he turn it round as we enter 2023?

The score so far: Punters 5-3 the Pro

The punter . . .

Name: Hoosh

Occupation: IT App Support

Flat or jumps? Jumps

Favourite horse: Sea The Stars

Favourite course: Sandown

Biggest win: Auroras Encore in the 2013 Grand National

Unluckiest loser: Way too many to mention!

. . . and the pro

Graeme Rodway is one of the longest-serving members of the Racing Post's tipping and analysis team.

A two-time top-three finisher in the Flat version of the national naps competition under the pseudonym 'The Edge', G-Rod has a proven record of tipping success over a period of more than ten years and now specialises in hurdles races over jumps and staying races on the Flat.

The picks

1.20 Cheltenham

Hoosh: Monmiral

Boring but Monmiral is the most likely winner. The step up in trip will suit and the rest don't look worldbeaters to me.

Graeme: Monmiral

Classy hurdler who made a promising debut over fences when second to Jonbon at Warwick. He can build on that here.

1.35 Musselburgh

Hoosh: Cedar Hill

Cedar Hill is a nice each-way price in this. He has course form and is now 1lb below his last winning mark.

Graeme: Baron De Midleton

Good second behind the well-handicapped Hidden Commander at Sedgefield last time and looks capable of going one better.

1.55 Cheltenham

Hoosh: Nassalam

An open race with loads in with a chance but Nassalam is the selection. He's still only six, is lightly raced and the ground should suit. I think there is more to come from him, if not today then he's definitely worth following.

Greame: Simply The Betts

Has a good record over course and distance and ran well when seventh in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last time.

2.30 Cheltenham

Hoosh: I Like To Move It

Won the Greatwood off top weight and could improve again for the step up in trip.

Graeme: Dashel Drasher

Top class over hurdles and fences and might be underestimated here following a good run at Aintree last time.

2.45 Musselburgh

Hoosh: Sizing Mauritius

The step back in trip should suit. His trainer is bang in form and he should be a nice each-way price.

Greame: Voix Du Reve

Well handicapped and ran well behind Constitution Hill at Newcastle last time. He can defy top weight in this much weaker race.

3.05 Cheltenham

Hoosh: Thomas Darby

Carries 12st but this is a drop in class from his normal races. He has course form and represents some value in another open race.

Graeme: Call Me Lord

Back to form this season and should have won at Sandown last time but rider Ben Bromley dropped his hands and that cost him the race. He can gain compensation.
