Racing is a multi-million pound industry with expertly-honed equine and human athletes, impressive technology and many shrewd minds.

However, none of this really matters if you ask 'proper' racing folk. What really matters is luck and whether the gods of superstition are on your side.

That is why we salute magpies, wear the same outfit we did the last time we were successful and look to replicate anything we can from past wins – however small it may be – to make sure we triumph.
