Stunning Sussex in the offing with Siskin, Kameko and Circus Maximus entered
The Qatar Sussex Stakes is shaping up to be one of the races of the Flat season with nine entered, including Guineas scorers Siskin and Kameko as well as Queen Anne winner Circus Maximus.
Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Siskin heads over to Goodwood from Ireland and bids to extend his unbeaten run to six for Ger Lyons, but will face stiff competition from fellow three-year-old and 2,000 Guineas winner Kameko, who returns to a mile after finishing fourth in the Derby at Epsom last time.
Three-time Group 1 winner Circus Maximus is another exciting possible. The Aidan O'Brien-trained four-year-old, who won the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp in 2019, was last seen securing the Queen Anne Stakes at the royal meeting last month.
Mohaather finished seventh in the Queen Anne but ran into all sorts of traffic problems, and duly made amends by roaring to victory in the Summer Mile at Ascot two weeks ago by just under four lengths from San Donato.
That rival has also been entered by Roger Varian, while Aidan O'Brien has four further contenders with Arizona, Lancaster House, Vatican City and Wichita.
Immediately before the Sussex Stakes is the intriguing Molecomb, a Group 3 sprint for two-year-olds that has thrown up esteemed winners such as King's Stand third Liberty Beach and all-weather speedster Kachy.
Varian has entered Sardinia Sunset, who won the Listed Marygate Fillies' Stakes at York last time after finishing fourth to Campanelle in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.
Caroline Dale finished just ahead of her in third on that day, and the pair could face off again with that David Loughnane-trained juvenile also among the 13 entered.
