Irish Derby winner Santiago entered against Stradivarius in Goodwood Cup
Superstar stayer Stradivarius is the feature name among seven entries for the Group 1 Goodwood Cup on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood next Tuesday.
Fresh off a career-best performance in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, Bjorn Nielsen's six-year-old could make history on the South Downs in becoming the first horse ever to win four runnings of the 2m contest.
However, this year's supporting cast could turn out to be a strong one with Irish Derby hero Santiago, John Smith's Silver Cup winner Eagles By Day and hardy stayers Nayef Road and Spanish Mission also in the mix.
Earlier on the card, Chesham winner Battleground could take a step up in class from Listed company after being one of 14 entered for the Group 2 Vintage Stakes.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained juvenile was a decisive winner at Royal Ascot but could be challenged by a field of promising two-year-olds, most notably impressive Superlative Stakes runner-up Devious Company, trained by Tom Dascombe.
A maximum field of 20 could challenge for the Lennox Stakes with Diamond Jubilee Stakes runner-up Dream Of Dreams the highest-rated contender.
Limato, Space Blues, Marie's Diamond and Arizona are among the other big names entered for the 7f Group 2.
