Stradivarius to face five rivals in key Arc trial at Longchamp on Sunday

Stradivarius will face five rivals in the Qatar Prix Foy at Longchamp on Sunday (4.10) before a potential tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

The six-year-old, who has been a dominant force over staying trips for the last four years, lines up against last year's Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner Way To Paris.

This race is a trial for the Arc and Waldgeist won it before denying Enable her third straight victory in the showpiece event a month later.

The track hosts two Group 1s and the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (2.50) has attracted a top-quality field of ten, including English King, whose trainer Ed Walker opted for this race rather than the St Leger.

Aidan O'Brien, who won last year's contest with Japan, sends three runners: Serpentine, who upset the odds when winning this year's Derby, Mogul and Nobel Prize.

Paul and Oliver Cole will be represented by Highland Chief, who finished second to Pyledriver in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes.

The race is followed by the Qatar Prix Vermeille (3.35), in which British and Irish trainers are responsible for five of the ten runners.

They include Dame Malliot, who will be partnered by Frankie Dettori, and Even So, winner of the Irish Oaks for trainer Ger Lyons.

Sovereign heads field for Irish St Leger

Sovereign will face seven rivals in the Group 1 Comer Group International Irish St Leger (4.40) at the Curragh on Sunday.

Last year's Irish Derby winner finished third in the Group 3 Vintage Crop Stakes on his seasonal reappearance before finding only Enable too good in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Among his rivals are the Joseph O'Brien-trained Twilight Payment, winner of the Group 2 Curragh Cup, and Fujaira Prince, who will make his first start in Ireland after winning the Ebor for Roger Varian.

The race is preceded by the Group 1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes (4.10), which was won impressively last year by Pinatubo.

There are 11 talented two-year-olds in the race, including Lucky Vega, who scored at the highest level in the Phoenix Stakes last time. Also in the field are Master Of The Seas and Battleground.

The Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes (3.40) has attracted a field of 13, headed by Group 2 winner Pretty Gorgeous, while 15 sprinters have been declared for the Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes (3.10), which features A'Ali, Glass Slippers and Make A Challenge.
