So Mi Dar among stars set to shine on Brigadier Gerard night
So Mi Dar, a leading fancy for last year's Investec Oaks before injury intervened, will start her four-year-old campaign in the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes, the highlight of Sandown's meeting on Thursday evening.
A daughter of multiple Group 1 winner Dar Re Mi, So Mi Dar has won four of her five starts and is likely to be a warm order under Frankie Dettori.
John Gosden's lightly raced filly faces seven rivals in the prestigious ten-furlong contest, including Grade 1-winning globetrotter Mondialiste, who has twice won at the highest level in North America, and Steel Of Madrid, who won the Earl of Sefton Stakes on his reappearance.
Popular stayer Big Orange features among seven declared for the Group 3 Henry II Stakes, the chief supporting race on the card. Big Orange enjoyed a successful campaign last season, winning a pair of Group 2 races, including the Goodwood Cup for the second year in succession, and ran with credit on his recent reappearance behind Vazirabad in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan.
Quest For More had his best season yet in 2016, winning both the Yorkshire Cup and the Group 1 Prix du Cadran, but he must carry a 7lb penalty on his return.
Two-year-old test
Five exciting juveniles will be putting their Royal Ascot credentials to the test in the Listed National Stakes, including Tom Dascombe's Frozen Angel, who is prominent in the ante-post betting for the Norfolk Stakes.
Hugo Palmer's Escobar, winner of his first two starts last season before disappointing in a Group 3 at Newmarket, makes his reappearance in the Listed Heron Stakes, while the card is bookended by a pair of competitive handicaps.
The going at Sandown on Tuesday morning was good to soft on the round course, with soft places on the sprint track. However, the forecast is for warm weather, with temperatures predicted to hit 25C on raceday.
A decision on any possible watering will be made Tuesday evening.
