The Dikler woke with a start after nodding off following the opening salvos of the Brexit appeal at the Supreme Court on Monday as James Eadie QC, outlining the government's argument over prerogative power, suddenly threw in a comment on a runner in the opening race at Lingfield.

Was it a tip? Had the Queen's Counsel insider info? And, most importantly, was there time to get on?

The beast in question was Serenade The Stars, but a quick look at the odds revealed the 33-1 shot had little chance, as Eadie acknowledged.
